Turkey Holiday Cottages near Oludeniz Fethiye

So beautiful is the Kaya Valley and so slow the pace of traditional rural life that it is hard to believe that bustling Fethiye and famous Ölü Deniz beach are such a short drive away. Beatrix Cottage is a little stone cottage of appealing simplicity converted lovingly over the years by John, poet and cartographer and his wife Bea, who painted the furniture so enchantingly. John and Bea live in another stone cottage nearby along with numerous cats and a donkey named Mabel. John, being a professional walk leader, as well as a mapmaker, is a mine of information about the splendid walking and biking opportunities of the valley. Spring is especially wonderful for walks as the countryside turns into a vividly coloured patchwork of anemones, orchids, cyclamen and poppies. Later in the year herbs - thyme, oregano and sage - scent the air and you can pluck figs and pomegranates from the trees.

Self Catering

Guests may cook on an electric two-ring hob or a small "table-top" oven. There is also a barbecue supplied and for the really adventurous there is a traditional bread oven in the grounds.

Beatrix Cottage has the advantage of having one or two restaurants within 20 minutes walking distance and a restaurant with swimming pool within a 3km bike ride. Dinner at home is provided on the first night by Bea, who’s an excellent cook and will cook to request on subsequent nights. As well as the enchanting rustic kitchen with chairs and tables should you wish to dine inside, Beatrix Cottage has a combined lounge/double bedroom with an open fireplace, a shower room reached via a charming internal courtyard which doubles as an al fresco dining room and another terrace, shaded by creepers.

Beatrix Cottage is not the ideal holiday accommodation for the average tourist. There is no disco within miles, no line-dancing and no cabaret. However, there are local restaurants selling traditional Turkish food, and there is now a local wine-house where one can enjoy a more sophisticated meal in a very atmospheric and sophisticated ambiance.

A guest's daytime activities will depend on one's mode of transport. Beaches are approximately 7 kilometers away and may be reached by public transport.

The walking opportunities are unlimited and John can send a guest on walks on which no other holidaymaker will be encountered. The occasional shepherd --perhaps.

We have found that many guests prefer to spend much of their time on the cottages terraces, and why not!

The nearest swimming pool is 2 Km away and the other perhaps 3.

Shops providing the minimum in basic supplies are a similar distance. Fethiye is the place to go for serious provisioning.
